August vacations

Deep Blade posting sporadic this month, but there are lots of great places to go

While President Bush enjoys his prodigious vacation at the Texas ranch (after a few parting shots at evolution), Bolton begins to terrorize the world's diplomats, and the US and world media fawn over the dead body of King Faud, we thought it would be good for us to follow the Chimperor's lead and take August to relax a bit from all the hubbub.

Fortunately for us, we're already in ``Vacationland''. So we were able to spend our tenth anniversary in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (see photo). We have family and friends stopping by for visits to. Later in the month, we will be heading for Canada, the Great Lakes, and the Midwest.

I do have a post coming along on the Rush to Bomb. This will show how the US policy makers who insisted upon the atrocities of the nuclear incinerations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki set the tone for so many US foreign policy ``quick solutions'' of the last sixty years. Everywhere from Vietnam to Panama to Iraq, innocent civilians have fallen under the incendiary technology of the United States, ordered by Americans who have figured that rapid resort to a rain of fire is best.

But that's just for the anniversary coming up this Saturday. We'll be active, with a demonstration and reading at the Bangor Public Library which will actually take place Friday August 5 from 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM. I'll post a couple of photos too.

Also check out the diary by Jerome a Paris at Daily Kos. The latter will often give you commentary and background on oil and energy that you won't get anywhere else.
